Ep.21 / How to be more disciplined, without draining your willpower

 

If you’ve been trying to change your habits, you probably have had the thought “I need to be more disciplined!” And what you probably mean is, “I need to figure out how to control my behaviors”... But there is a problem with this perspective: Exerting control over yourself takes willpower.


You have to put effort towards going against your natural inclinations and actions. And willpower is a finite resource. It is not sustainable. (Which you probably already know. Because it has always ended up failing you in the past!)


Thankfully, there is another way to think about and use discipline - one that does NOT require willpower, and actually flows with EASE and JOY. Sound too good to be true? It’s not, I promise. It’s how I’ve stuck to my self-care habits for years (some almost a decade now!)… And how my students learn to stick to the lifestyle they desire for themselves as well.
